It is a low-tech tool, that is used with the inhabitants in six different phases ranging from expressing problems to creating future scenarios.With this kit, problems are discussed using photos and images made by the inhabitants themselves in the beginning of the process. P-KIT has been tested and modified during a community participation workshops that took place in the “Satellite” neighborhood in Pioltello (Provincia di Milano). It was clear how well the kit helped “break the ice” between inhabitants and facilitators, enabling the inhabitants to better express their problems and develop a positive attitude towards future solutions.

Specifically it defines two sets of tools, one for the local Municipality and the other for the tenants community, in order to implement and manage the service.

+ Vicini is a project developed for Pioltello Municipality in Lombardy region, Italy.

Seeds was engaged for almost one year, carrying out 3 months on-field research and defining the front and back office of the service. For the research phase we were working in a wider team involving people from the district services’ center managed by Pioltello Municipality and some of the most active people in the building.

The project is particulary interesting because it shows a new approach of public administration in solving social issues though participation and co-design.

It can be thought as a “distributed hostel”. It is a chain of rooms to rent for short periods in private apartments, that is administrated by cafes close to the main university campus.

The project was firstly developed for the city of Milan in order to answer to the systemic need of low cost hospitality for incoming students.
It is a low cost hosteling that grantees good quality for the guest by the encounter with local hosts and the security of a single promoter. It is also a way for local students to meet people from different countries and culture as well as earn some money.
